Celestún is located in a north west corner of the Yucatan Peninsula, this unique location is the first places for migratory birds to arrive, either to stablish heir winter grounds or used as a stopover along their long path then continue flying to the south. During winter Celestún holds a list over 360 species of birds which almost half are migratory birds, coming as far from the US and Canada.

Located on two estates of the Yucatan peninsula Celestun Biosphere Reserve holds and surface of 81482.33 hectares or 201,347.23Acres of protected area. its well recognize by birdwatchers and nature enthusiastic that are coming here since the year 70s to look for birds and nature. Celestun estuary during the winter months becomes the biggest attractions as thousands of pink flamingos arrive to feed.
